Which NFL team has best chance to go worst-to-first in 2020?

Almost every year, the NFL sees a team go from the bottom of its division to the top.

This year, the San Francisco 49ers not only did so, but have reached Super Bowl LIV after picking second-overall nine months ago. So who can do it in 2020? Who can go from the bottom to the top in a single NFL season? Here’s our best guess, from least-likely to most.

8. Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow is coming to the Queen City, but this is a full-scale rebuild. Cincinnati needs much more than Burrow to handle the likes of the Pittsburgh Steelers (with Ben Roethlisberger) and the Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals might be very dangerous in a few years, but it’s going to be a slow process.

7. Detroit Lions

The Lions have the third pick in the draft and should land an impact player, but this is a tough division. The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings are playoff teams, while the Chicago Bears are at least respectable. If Detroit gets a healthy year from Matthew Stafford, it should be much-improved, but that’s not winning the NFC North.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars

Nick Foles or Gardner Minshew? Tough to say, but either way, beating out the revitalizing Tennessee Titans or Houston Texans won’t be easy. It’s not an impossible notion, though. Jacksonville has some real talent on the roster.

5. Washington Redskins

The Redskins are this high on the list for a few reasons. The NFC East is terrible, Ron Rivera is a really good coach and they should land Chase Young or a massive haul of picks.

4. Carolina Panthers

Matt Rhule looks like he should be an excellent coach. If the Panthers decide to keep Cam Newton, this could be a very quick turnaround in Charlotte. Plus, who knows what is going on with Drew Brees.

3. Los Angeles Chargers

Philip Rivers is likely out, and perhaps Justin Herbert is in? We’ll have to see, but if the Chargers strike proverbial gold and find their next quarterback, this is a really talented team. The only problem is the Kansas City Chiefs don’t figure to be going anywhere.

2. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have a unique coach in Kliff Kingsbury and a very good, young quarterback in Kyler Murray. If the NFL offseason goes their way, they could rise quickly.

1. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins were trying to tank and won five games. Why? Brian Flores is a damn good coach. Don’t be surprised if Miami gets a good rookie quarterback and with the New England Patriots showing their age, perhaps make a fun run.
