NFL Week 15: 5 underdogs to bet

Now we’re at NFL Week 15, we have a pretty good idea who the good teams are. However, don’t discount the underdogs in this week’s action.

5. Arizona Cardinals (+9) at Atlanta Falcons

Alright, let’s start with a line that makes no sense. Why are the Cardinals getting nine points here? Are the Falcons suddenly good and/or healthy? Atlanta has four wins this season. Arizona has three. The Cardinals have proven they can play a little on the road, hanging tough with the Kansas City Chiefs before beating the Green Bay Packers. They probably don’t win this game outright, but there is no reason to bet Atlanta in this one.

4. Miami Dolphins (+7) at Minnesota Vikings

Again, a road team that should be getting more respect. The Dolphins aren’t going to intimidate anybody with their roster. Hell, looking at their 7-6 record, it suggests they are a bit better than they actually are considering they started 3-0 against a soft schedule and then won on a miracle last Sunday. Still, the Vikings have been awful. At 6-6, the Vikings have not beaten a single good team the entire year, and Kirk Cousins is start to feel the heat. Factor in a shake-up in the coaching staff, and Minnesota has all sorts of problems at the moment.

3. Washington Redskins (+7) at Jacksonville Jaguars

No reason to spend a ton of time on this putrid NFL Week 15 game. Jacksonville and Washington are both awful, but why are the Jaguars laying a touchdown to anybody? This is a team that has scored a combined 15 points over the last two games. Jacksonville is starting Cody Kessler at quarterback. There’s no change they ever hit 20 points in a game. Meanwhile, the Redskins are atrocious as well, but they are getting seven points. They cover here.

2. New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers (+2)

The Patriots typically play very well against the Steelers, home or away. Last year at this same juncture, the Patriots went into the Steel City and took care of Pittsburgh in that controversial game surrounding Jesse James. Regardless, the Steelers are beyond desperate to win this game after losing three straight, with the last defeat coming to the Oakland Raiders. Look, New England is the better team, but Pittsburgh is going to be playing with mass urgency, knowing that another loss and it might mean the effective end of their Super Bowl dreams.

1. Oakland Raiders (+2.5) at Cincinnati Bengals

Incredibly, we are taking the Raiders as the top underdog bet of the week. Oakland has been paying better of late with a tough loss to the Chiefs followed by a win against the Steelers. Derek Carr has put together some impressive performances and Cincinnati has the worst defense in football. Factor in that Jeff Driskel is starting under center for the Bengals, and it’s a recipe for Oakland to pull off the upset.
