NFL Week 5 games: 5 teams on upset alert

The NFL Week 5 games are a collection of terrific matchups, but these five favorites must be careful not to get upset this weekend.

5. Dallas Cowboys (-7) vs. New York Giants

The Giants are only 1-3, but they’ve played every opponent close. Against the Cowboys, the two NFC East rivals know each other quite well. New York has the talent to cause Dallas’ defense some issues, with running back Saquon Barkley in the backfield and receivers Sterling Shepard, Kenny Golladay, Darius Slayton and Kadarius Toney creating matchup problems. If Daniel Jones can continue avoiding turnovers, expect this to be a tight affair.

4. Los Angeles Chargers (-2) vs. Cleveland Browns

The Chargers are playing excellent football, but this is a tricky spot. Los Angeles is on a short week and the Browns are riding a three-game wining streak after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. While Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield is struggling with a shoulder injury, his running game and defense have picked up the proverbial slack. For Los Angeles, it’ll be tough to harass Mayfield with the Browns’ great offensive line. Look for this game to be about who makes a few big plays.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (-3) vs. Buffalo Bills

Patrick Mahomes and the offense face a defense that has two shutouts in its last three games. While the Bills have faced poor competition all year, the results have still been impressive over the three-game win streak, in which Sean McDermott’s club has a +97 point differential. Kansas City has one of the league’s worst defenses in almost every statistical category, and if that doesn’t improve on Sunday night, the Bills will score more than enough to challenge the Chiefs.

2. Las Vegas Raiders (-5.5) vs. Chicago Bears

The Bears aren’t as good as the Raiders, but Chicago has new life with rookie quarterback Justin Fields being inserted into the lineup. There’s very little tape on him in coordinator Bill Lazor’s scheme, and it could cause problems for Las Vegas. The Raiders must protect Derek Carr from Chicago’s rush as well, which features Khalil Mack who undoubtedly would like some revenge this week.

1. New Orleans Saints (-2.5) at Washington Football Team

Are we sure the best team is favored? Both the Saints and Football Team are 2-2, and Jameis Winston has thrown for the fewest yards of any quarterback who has started each week thus far. New Orleans is more talented but remains without a few key players including receiver Michael Thomas. It wouldn’t be shocking, or even surprising, if Washington walks away with home victory.
