Packers’ Jordan Love reveals why he decided to have surgery now
One of the biggest concerns for the Green Bay Packers with the start of the 2025 NFL season being right around the corner has been the status of star quarterback Jordan Love.
Love surprisingly had surgery on his left thumb, which made many believe he might not be ready for the start of the 2025. However, the reason he had the surgery when he did was that he’d be ready to go Week 1, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
“I think with the time frame that we have right now, finishing up training camp and preseason and heading into the season with the choice to be going into the season 100% healthy was definitely the call I wanted to make,” Love told reporters in Indiana on Thursday following the Packers’ joint practice with the Colts. “Dealing with injuries last year, I wanted to go into this thing feeling good.”
This is a great sign for the Packers, as the last thing the team wants to do is start the season without their star quarterback under center.

Love said he and the team will monitor his status moving forward, but he will likely be back on the field sooner rather than later.
“We’ll start integrating back in next week and kind of just playing it by ear, seeing how it feels,” Love said. “Once I get throwing and moving around, things like that, just playing it by ear, but next week we should be starting.”
The Packers will get the season underway with a tough divisional matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 7.
