Packers’ Josh Jacobs Situation Takes Serious Turn Before Week 1
Green Bay Packers star running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the commissioner’s list.
The designation means that he will not be on the Packers’ 53-man roster and cannot practice with the team or attend games. Jacobs will continue to be paid, if Green Bay allows, and will be able to be at the practice facility for meetings, medical treatment, individual workouts, and other non-football activities.
The decision from the league occurred three days after the Pro Bowl running back was charged with two misdemeanors from an alleged incident with a woman in May.
The NFL has said it is still reviewing Jacobs’ case, and it doesn’t have to wait to hand down punishment if deemed necessary.
The Packers have moved in accordance with the decision by trading for running back Kaleb Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnson is coming off posting 69 yards on 28 carries in games last season after being drafted with the 83rd overall pick in 2025.
Beyond that, the Packers’ depth behind Jacobs includes MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks. Green Bay believes that Lloyd could excel in an increased role after missing most of his first two seasons due to injury.

Jacobs’ absence leaves a significant void as he has proven to be a huge asset in the offensive game plan. In his first two campaigns with the Packers, he posted 2,258 rushing yards with 28 rushing touchdowns.
Although he fell below 1,000 rushing yards last season, he has notched double-digit touchdown totals in each year.
