Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey focused on ‘winning’ not statistics
Few players in the NFL have put up the numbers that versatile running back Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers has over the past few years. He is arguably the best player in the league at his position and continues to improve on an annual basis with his statistics being on another level entirely.
Although all the buzz around McCaffrey is his ability to put up massive numbers coming out of the backfield and as a receiver, he’s all about winning moving forward. McCaffrey made that clear during a Zoom call on Friday, according to David Newton of ESPN.

“The biggest statistic is winning,” McCaffrey said Friday on a Zoom call. “That’s all I’ve ever cared about. I just want to win. I hope everybody scores four touchdowns a game and we win by 60 every game.”
The Panthers are going through some drastic changes ahead of the 2020 NFL season. Star quarterback Cam Newton is now playing for the New England Patriots and the team is ushering in a new head coach in Matt Rhule, who said the following about his superstar running back and his plans heading into the 2020 campaign.

“It’s no disrespect to him,” he said. “But him getting a 1,000-1,000 is not a focus of mine. Him driving us to win games is. McCaffrey’s a winner. He wants to win. Obviously, our best chance to win is him playing very well.”
It seems as though things could change for McCaffrey in 2020. His workhorse days may be over under Rhule, but only time will tell if that is truly the direction for the Panthers as they aim to be the cream of the crop in the NFC.
