Panthers star QB Cam Newton undergoes shoulder surgery once again

The Carolina Panthers are coming off another disappointing season. Ron Rivera’s squad saw a star emerge in the form of running back Christian McCaffrey. He quickly became the focal point of the offense. However, the team couldn’t stay on track after winning six of their first eight games.

After losing seven over their last eight games of the 2018 campaign, the Panthers missed the playoffs. As well as that, they had a coach on the hot seat, and now have a major concern at quarterback. Star gunslinger Cam Newton has undergone shoulder surgery once again, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton on Thursday underwent surgery on his right shoulder for the second time in three offseasons.

Newton took to Instagram after the surgery to upgrade Panthers fans on his mindset moving forward. The veteran quarterback seems to be in good spirits and motivated to come back stronger.

With McCaffrey seemingly becoming the new face of the franchise, the Panthers brass might want to start thinking about the future with or without Cam Newton. The 29-year-old has two more years left on his deal with Carolina as he is set to make $16.2 million next season and $18.6 million in 2020.

Although it may be early to talk about the team potentially moving on from Newton, there have been rumors that he could sit out the entire 2019 campaign after this latest setback. If that’s the case, they’ll be forced to look for a one-year fix and possibly keeping their options open to bring in another starter altogether to lead this franchise into the future.
