Panthers to start QB Bryce Young in Week 8
Earlier this season, the Carolina Panthers sent shockwaves throughout the NFL after the team decided to bench former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young in favor of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. The move was unexpected and resulted in the team getting a lot of heat for not giving the talented young quarterback a chance to develop.
After watching from the sideline over the past few games, the Panthers will turn back to Young heading into the Week 8 matchup with the Denver Broncos on the road in the Mile High City, according to David Newton of ESPN.
Coach Dave Canales called [Bryce] Young on Tuesday night to inform him he would be the starter Sunday at Denver and announced it publicly Wednesday after a practice in which the top pick of the 2023 draft took all the first-team reps while Dalton observed.
The reason for the change was not performance-based, as Dalton got in a car accident earlier this week, which resulted in the veteran journeyman injuring his thumb.

Young reacted to the news that he would be starting and knows the challenge he faces heading into this matchup with the Broncos in Denver this weekend via ESPN.
“Definitely, there is adversity,” he said when asked how big of a challenge the situation was. “But I’m not the only person going through something, I’m not the only person struggling. I just have to continue to be consistent.”
It remains to be seen whether Young can come through this tough time, as he’ll be facing a formidable defense that will be looking to bounce back from a loss last week.
