Panthers will start veteran QB Cam Newton in Week 11
Since the Carolina Panthers brought back three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Cam Newton, it became the expectation that he would start.
Ahead of his second game back with Carolina, head coach Matt Rhule voiced that Newton will start against the Washington Football Team on Sunday.
“He’s really done a nice job learning the game plan for this week,” Rhule said of Newton via ESPN. “He’s worked really hard. He’s really a smart player. Really a smart quarterback.”
Throughout the week, Newton has received first-team snaps, another clear indicator that the team would give him the reins as the starter. The Panthers inked him to a deal worth up to $10 million through the rest of the season, which would only make sense to give him significant playing time.
Newton holds plenty of comfort under center with the Panthers as he spent his first nine seasons with the franchise. Although he’s learning a new playbook under Rhule, he holds plenty of familiarity with the team.
The 32-year-old performed well in his first game in last Sunday’s blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals. He recorded two total touchdowns (rushing and passing) that both came in goal-line situations.

Newton holds the opportunity ahead to potentially cement himself as the long-term answer. Although his arrival came due to Sam Darnold’s shoulder injury, the door is open to him showcasing he has plenty left in the tank to be an effective quarterback.
All the cards are on the table for him to revitalize his NFL career.
