Patrick Mahomes ‘big’ plays led to Chiefs’ success

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the doorstep of becoming the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the central focus of the Chiefs’ push toward historic success, which he credits to this year’s team’s ability to make pivotal plays in close games.

“This team’s been special because it’s been everybody,” Mahomes said via ESPN. “If you look at our entire season, it’s like someone makes a big play at the biggest moment to go out there and win a football game, ifthat’s offense, defense or special teams. The fact that it’s been everybody, it’s not just offense, it’s not just defense, it’s everybody on the entire team, it is something I’ll remember this season by and hopefully we can do it the right way and get this final win.”

This, more than any other in the Mahomes’ era, has the Chiefs found tremendous success in close games, with 11 of their 15 regular-season wins coming in one-score affairs.

Kansas City clinched their Super Bowl LIX berth after outlasting the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game, which also marked the third time in the playoffs that they inched past star quarterback Josh Allen.

The Philadelphia Eagles present another difficult challenge behind their explosive offense led by star running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Chiefs are currently favored by 1.5 points, which could be another exciting showdown that matches their previous meeting in Super Bowl LVII.
