Patriots Finally Acquire A.J. Brown in Blockbuster Trade With Eagles

After months of speculation, the Philadelphia Eagles finally moved on from star wide receiver A.J. Brown in a trade to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection.

The Patriots had long been circled as the landing spot for the disgruntled Pro Bowl wideout, as it appeared that he reached a breaking point with the Eagles this offseason.

Following the move, Brown took to Instagram to voice his appreciation for playing with Philadelphia.

“Playing for this city has been an honor, and I’m thankful for every moment I had in midnight green. Thank you, Philly. Much love always. God bless,” Brown said via ESPN.

The 29-year-old spent the last four seasons with the Eagles, where he posted the franchise’s two highest single-season receiving yard totals with 1,496 yards in 2022 and 1,456 in 2023. He also played a pivotal role in guiding the Eagles to their second Super Bowl win.

Despite a turbulent 2025 campaign, Brown has been producing at a historic pace through his first seven seasons as he’s one of seven players in league history to record at least 8,500 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns, putting him alongside Jerry Rice, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison, and Tyreek Hill.

The writing had been on the wall for the last few months as the Eagles made notable moves at the wide receiver position by adding more depth and talent. It began with signing Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore in free agency, followed by trading for Green Bay Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks.

Philadelphia then moved up to the 20th overall pick in this year’s draft to select USC standout Makai Brown. It was just a matter of time before Brown wound up elsewhere before the 2026 season.

He now joins a Patriots’ offense where he could immediately step in as the No.1 passing game option for rising star quarterback Drake Maye. New England has also made another notable addition to the wideout room this offseason by signing former Packer Romeo Doubs.
