Patriots ‘close’ to a deal with veteran wideout Kenny Britt
Last year, veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt resurrected his NFL career with a solid performance with the Los Angeles Rams. Britt’s season turned a lot of heads around the league. As a result, he became a hot commodity on the free agent market. Ultimately this lead to him signing a lucrative deal with the Cleveland Browns.
Unfortunately for Britt, the change of scenery didn’t bode well for him. He struggled and never really caught on in Cleveland which led to his recent release by the team. Although Britt’s season has been a disappointment thus far, he’s gotten another chance at redemption with the New England Patriots reportedly closing in on a deal with the journeyman, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
The New England Patriots are close to an agreement on a two-year contract with free-agent wide receiver Kenny Britt, a league source tells ESPN.
Week 15
In nine games with the Browns this year, Britt caught only 18 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Although he clearly couldn’t get the job done in Cleveland or simply wasn’t a fit under head coach Hue Jackson, Bill Belichick is willing to roll the dice and hope he gets another gem in a veteran castoff.
Last season, Britt cracked 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his NFL career. He has 1,002 receiving yards to go along with 68 receptions and five touchdowns. Britt’s success in Los Angeles might have been enough to convince the Patriots to give him a shot.
After a disappointing loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 14, the Patriots are slight favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.
