Patriots coach Bill Belichick praises All-Pro Stephon Gilmore

The New England Patriots grabbed their 10th win of the season by inching past the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.

It wasn’t the cleanest offensive performance, but it saw their defense set the tone for the contest that pushed another win. That feature All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore putting up a masterful performance against Amari Cooper to which head coach Bill Belichick voiced much praise towards him. “Gilmore does a nice job here of getting behind Cooper so he doesn’t get picked by any traffic, and in this case he comes underneath,” Belichick said. “Against a good corner like Steph who’s long and fast and makes a great, great play on the ball, a great catch.”

Over the last few seasons, Gilmore has established himself as arguably the best cornerback in the league. His work against Cooper was another part of proving that to be the case as it was pivotal in limiting the Cowboys’ offensive production.

Gilmore has been a vital part of the Patriots’ dominant defense that has been among the best units in the league. It’s a primary reason for the team being in the promising spot at this point in the season. That also helped alleviate the pressure on the offense that has been lackluster at times over the last few weeks.

Nonetheless, their defense will need to play a significant part if they hope to get past the likes of the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas Chiefs in the playoffs time around.
