Patriots QB Cam Newton admits ‘subpar performance’ against Raiders

The New England Patriots are coming off another win in the Cam Newton era. The storied NFL franchise was able to get the best of the upstart Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, but the team’s superstar quarterback wasn’t all that impressed with his performance.

Newton opened up about what he referred to a “subpar performance” against the Raiders in Week 3, via NESN.com.

“(Sunday) was kind of frustrating in itself,” he said. “I do understand, playing in this league long enough, that there will be games like that. And when there are games like that, you’ve just got to find ways to win.

“So that’s the optimistic answer. Me personally, with lackluster ball security, just the slow start offensively, this is subpar performance. I know I can play better, I know I can be better and I know I will be better. … I’m going, like, midway C — 75. Just subpar.”

During the win over the Raiders, Newton threw for only 162 yards, one touchdown and an interception. These are not stellar numbers for a quarterback of his caliber who faced a team that has struggled on defense this year.

Regardless of Newton’s performance, the Patriots were able to secure their second win of the season improving their record to 2-1.

Things will only get tougher for Newton and company in Week 4. Bill Belichick’s squad will go up against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on the road at Arrowhead Stadium. This game will undoubtedly be the toughest of the season so far outside of their matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
