Patriots release veteran star wide receiver Stefon Diggs
The New England Patriots are coming off their most successful season since the Tom Brady era, with new head coach Mike Vrabel, who won NFL Coach of the Year, taking the team all the way to the Super Bowl with second-year quarterback and MVP candidate Drake Maye leading the way.
One player who helped get the most out of Maye during the 2025 NFL season was none other than veteran star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who quickly became one of the North Carolina product’s favorite targets downfield.
Unfortunately for Diggs, it was one and done for the journeyman wideout, as he was told he’ll be released by the team next week, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.
The New England Patriots informed veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs that he will be released at the start of the 2026 league year next week, according to a league source.
After the news broke, Diggs took to social media with the following message, via ESPN.
Diggs posted a message on his Instagram story: “Thank you for a hell of a year. We family forever.”
Even though Diggs played a big role on the Patriots during the 2025 campaign, the veteran’s off-the-field issues and legal troubles may have been the breaking point for New England, especially with so many talented wide receivers becoming available this offseason.
