Patriots rookie Mac Jones ‘more ready than anybody really knows’
Earlier this week, the New England Patriots executed the surprising move to part ways with three-time Pro Bowler Cam Newton.
The decision effectively places rookie Mac Jones into the starting job ahead of his rookie campaign. It speaks volumes to the Patriots’ confidence that he can lead the team to success in 2021.

His teammates have quickly clamored over his strong showing in training camp and the preseason. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne recently voiced that Jones is more prepared than anybody knows.
“Yeah, for anybody, you get named the starter, that’s a different kind of urgency,” Bourne said, via Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. “You can’t mess up. The only way is down. For any starter, I think you feel that pressure, but he was built for it since [Alabama]. I think he’s more ready than anybody really knows.”
Jones has clearly done enough to warrant this unique opportunity out the gate in his rookie year. He’s demonstrated a firm control of the offense while commanding the respect of his teammates and coaches.
The Alabama product will have every chance to become the Patriots’ guiding offensive factor. It’s on his shoulders to move the team forward in hopes of putting together a special 2021 season.

New England will have a tough Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, where a formidable opponent will quickly test Jones. He will experience his ups and downs in his rookie year, but it’s a matter of him weathering the adjustment period.
Nonetheless, it’s quite evident his teammates are extremely confident in his ability.
