Raiders’ Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow designated to return from IR

With a month left in the 2022 regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders are eyeing a push to the playoffs.

The Raiders’ efforts received a significant boost after the team designated Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow for a return from the injured reserve. The two now have 21 days to return to the field, which could put them back in the fold as early as this week.

Waller has been out of the lineup since Oct. 2 due to a hamstring injury, while Renfrow hasn’t played since Nov. 6 due to an oblique issue. The two play crucial parts of the Raiders’ passing game, which their absence has placed significant pressure on Davante Adams to be the primary offensive factor.

Waller hasn’t performed up to the level that has earned him the reputation as one of the league’s top tight ends. Meanwhile, Renfrow’s health issues haven’t allowed him to showcase his game-changing ability out of the slot.

Las Vegas sits in a difficult spot, holding a 5-8 record two games behind the New England Patriots for the final wildcard spot. The Raiders will play the Patriots in Week 15, while the remaining schedule features the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Las Vegas will need to win their last four games along with the New York Jets and Los Angeles Chargers finishing with no more than eight wins. The deck is stacked against the Raiders, but there remains a chance for them to squeeze into the playoffs if the chips fall in their favor.
