Raiders’ Kirk Cousins Faces Uncertain Future After Klint Kubiak’s Latest Comments
The Las Vegas Raiders have dropped their last four games, which has prompted potential significant change under center.
Following Sunday’s disappointing Week 7 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Klint Kubiak said that he is considering all options, including possibly benching Kirk Cousins in favor of rookie Fernando Mendoza.
“We have to go watch the film,” Kubiak said via ESPN. “I think at this point, we’re thinking about everything to fix our problems, how to fix our issues in the red zone, in the third quarter, personnel [and] scheme. We’ve got to talk about all of it.”
The potential move isn’t against Cousins’ performance through the first seven weeks of the season, but it’s a response to the team losing their last four straight games after starting 3-0 to begin the campaign.
Sunday’s loss against the Rams was a microcosm of the Raiders’ struggles over the last month. Las Vegas fell behind 28-6 in the first half due to a porous offense, which forced them into a deficit too large to overcome.
Cousins put forth a productive outing by the numbers, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns and a 94.4 passer rating. He has been shown plenty in the first seven games with 1,877 passing yards and leads the league with 16 touchdown passes to five interceptions.

However, Cousins’ play hasn’t matched the Raiders’ hot start, as he has seven touchdown passes in the last four games, which hasn’t been enough to elevate Las Vegas.
The writing may be on the wall for the Raiders to make the shift to Mendoza to get them back on track.
