Raiders may part ways with head coach Jack Del Rio
Last season, the Oakland Raiders were a team on the rise in the NFL with stars Derek Carr and Khalil Mack leading the way. The team had Super Bowl aspirations with many believing they could’ve gotten that far had Carr not gotten hurt.
Along with the Raiders becoming a force to be reckoned with, the team’s brass thought it was a good idea to sign head coach Jack Del Rio to a contract extension. Fast forward a year later, the team may be regretting that decision with the coach having a 50-50 chance to be retained after the season, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.
And that’s precisely what’s going on with Raiders coach Jack Del Rio. Per a league source, it’s currently a coin flip for Del Rio.
After a revolving door at the head coaching position in Oakland, Del Rio was thought to be the answer as he had seemingly turned things around with some promising young players setting up a potentially bright future.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, Del Rio may not be given the chance to bounce back from a disappointing season after going 12-4 last year. Mark Davis and company may have another coach in mind or simply believe it is time for a change if they feel Del Rio has been tuned out by the players.
With the Raiders having such a talented roster, a lot of prominent coaches that are available could show considerable interest in taking the job in Oakland if they indeed decide to part ways with Del Rio. If the Raiders choose to make a change, it’ll be interesting to see the odds and if Jon Gruden is a candidate to return.
