Raiders sign Derek Carr to a massive 3-year contract extension
After the Las Vegas Raiders surprisingly acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams, the attention quickly turned to quarterback Derek Carr’s long-term future.
Carr was in the final year of his five-year, $125 million deal. As a result, many presumed that he would ink an extension this offseason. That came to fruition on Wednesday morning as ESPNÂ reported that the former Pro Bowler inked a three-year, $121.5 million deal that runs through the 2025 campaign.

“Derek Carr has been the leader of this franchise for a long time and we are thrilled to continue that relationship moving forward,” head coach Josh McDaniels said in a statement released by the team. “He has been a great example of someone who always puts the team first and we appreciate his desire to keep doing that while leading on and off the field. It is clear how much Derek cares about this organization, his teammates and winning. I look forward to the opportunity to work with him this season and beyond.”
His contract includes a no-trade clause, which will allow him to dictate his long-term future in Las Vegas. The inclusion of the option likely came about due to the trade rumors that floated around this offseason.
Carr was linked to the Indianapolis Colts as a potential option before they acquired Matt Ryan from Atlanta. The 31-year-old is now tied to the Raiders through the next few seasons. This allows him to play multiple seasons alongside Adams, who he spent his collegiate career playing at Fresno State.

The Raiders have been busy adding to the roster this offseason to keep pace with the rest of the AFC West. It’s a good thing too, because it is now arguably the deepest division in the league. Las Vegas signed Pro Bowl pass rusher Chandler Jones in free agency while Adam’s addition finally gives the team their first legitimate No.1 wide receiver since Amari Cooper.
Carr will play a huge part in helping push the Raiders to a second straight playoff berth.
