Rams could try to trade Todd Gurley during NFL offseason

The Rams enjoyed an impressive run at the Super Bowl last year that ultimately ended in a disappointing loss to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots. However, the Los Angeles Rams were unable to bounce back during the 2019 NFL season. Los Angeles simply couldn’t put it together on both sides of the football for an entire season. As a result, they missed the playoffs.

With the Rams needing to turn things around, the team has already made some drastic changes. The first of which was parting ways with defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Another major move could be on the horizon with star running back Todd Gurley potentially on the trading block during this NFL offseason, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

Whether L.A. can pull it off remains another question, given Gurley’s massive contract that includes $45 million in guarantees and runs through the 2023 season, as well as the uncertainty that continues to surround the long-term health of his surgically repaired left knee. This past season, Gurley played a diminished role in the offense, rushing for 857 yards, his fewest since the 2016 season (885).

Gurley’s health has been a concern for the team ever since his knee issues started to flare up. Gurley’s play on the field and limited snaps have turned a lot of heads. It’s a far cry from the time he once seemed to be their best player behind Aaron Donald.

Now the team could seriously consider moving on from a player once thought to be the best back in the NFL. One thing is for certain, the team needs to get back on track. Especially as they move into a new stadium with high hopes of a competitive being on the field in 2020.
