Rams QB Matthew Stafford’s Week 1 status revealed
The primary concern for the Los Angeles Rams throughout training camp has been the status of star quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has been dealing with a back issue.
Although the veteran quarterback and head coach Sean McVay have been saying all the right things about the status of the face of the Rams franchise, the concern hasn’t gone away. However, there has now been more clarity on whether Stafford will be ready for the season opener against the Houston Texans.

McVay has let it be known that Stafford is expected to be under center for Week 1, according to Sarah Bishop of ESPN.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who missed time with an aggravated disk in his back, is expected to start the season opener against the Houston Texans, coach Sean McVay said.
Stafford commented on his back issue and how he’s feeling with the start of the 2025 NFL season approaching.
“Backs are sometimes interesting things,” Stafford said after his first full week of practice. “It’s not cut and dry what’s what and how you’re going to feel, so I really appreciate our team and our head coach and everybody taking a day-to-day approach with me doing everything they can to try and help me out.”
As Stafford admits, back issues are tricky and can be very unpredictable. It’ll be something that continues to get monitored throughout the upcoming regular season, especially considering the veteran quarterback isn’t getting any younger at 37 years old.
