Rams’ Sean McVay makes surprising admission about Davante Adams

The Los Angeles Rams came one win short of the Super Bowl during the 2025 NFL season, falling to the eventual champion and division rival, the Seattle Seahawks, in the NFC Championship Game.

One of the main reasons for the Rams’ success during the 2025 campaign was their lethal passing game, led by NFL MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had the dynamic wide receiver duo of Davante Adams and Puka Nacua at his disposal.

Even though Adams has been a big success during his short time with the Rams, the team actually explored trading him during this offseason, as head coach Sean McVay admitted to, via ESPN.

“If we felt like it was best for our team, we would have done that,” McVay said from the league meetings Monday. “But we didn’t think it was best for our team.”

This was a surprising development, to say the least, with Adams coming off a season in which he caught 14 touchdowns, which led the NFL.

McVay also admitted he told Adams that they explored trading him.

“There’s a lot of stuff that’s out there that’s not accurate, but when there is at least some accuracy or some thought to it, you want to deal with that direct, honest and open,” McVay said. “And there’s been instances where I wasn’t as good about that in previous years, and so I don’t want to make those same mistakes.

“And he’s a grown man, and I think he understood that this is a part of this business, but I think what he also understood is at the end of the day, you’re a Ram because this is what’s best and I’m excited to move forward with him.”

It was likely a shock for Adams, who seemed to find a home in Los Angeles after two forgettable stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.
