Rams tight end Tyler Higbee suffered a torn ACL in loss to Lions

The Los Angeles Rams suffered a tough wildcard defeat to the Detroit Lions, but their losses extended further than that.

Starting tight end Tyler Higbee suffered a torn ACL from a hit he took late in the fourth quarter. It occurred after safety Kerby Joseph hit Higbee low as he attempted to make a catch.

Joseph went to social media after Sunday’s game where he stated: “I’m praying for bro and his family I don’t have no intention to hurt nobody and or harm their career.”

Higbee is coming off putting together another productive campaign with 47 receptions for 495 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The 31-year-old is under contract through the 2025 season after inking a two-year, $17 million extension last September.

Joseph’s tackle has drawn plenty of criticism due to his recent history of questionable tackles. Last month, he hit Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson on Christmas Eve that resulted in a season-ending torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

After the wildcard win against the Rams, Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone defended his teammate.

“Honestly, it’s what this league is now,” he told reporters via ESPN. “You have to go low, you can’t go high and it’s a clinic tackle, in my opinion. I know they exchanged words after, but there’s nothing else that we can do defensively now. That’s what the league office wants.”

Given that those two hits from Joseph resulted in the opposing player suffering significant injuries, it leaves him open for strong criticism.
