Rashod Bateman makes telling comments about Ravens’ slow start

The Baltimore Ravens have stumbled out of the gate to begin the 2025 season, falling to a 1-4 record.

It has put the Ravens in last place in the AFC North, leaving the team sized up for plenty of criticism. However, it’s something that the players believe is warranted.

“The fans got every right to feel how they feel,” Rashod Bateman said via ESPN. “They expect excellence. It’s our job to deliver that. We are not upholding the standard right now, so we deserve all the criticism.”

Baltimore more than felt the absence of two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson in a blowout 44-10 home loss to the Houston Texans. It marked the first time since 2022 that the team had dropped back-to-back games by 17 points or more.

The Ravens looked every bit the part of a rudderless ship; the offense looks like a shell of itself without their star quarterback, while the defense hasn’t performed any better. Baltimore allowed 417 total offensive yards, 27 first downs, 167 rushing yards, and allowed Houston to convert four out of five red zone trips.

The task doesn’t get easier with Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, who are coming off a disappointing overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Despite their two frustrating losses to the 49ers and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams have looked the part of a championship-contending team.

With Jackson expected to sit out at least one more week, Baltimore faces a potentially even more daunting task against Los Angeles.
