Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey Sounds Off on Criticism of Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has voiced his unhappiness with the negative dialogue around two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson.

As the media spoke about how Jackson has looked in practice this past week, Humphrey decided to speak up in defense of his quarterback.

“It seems like Lamar’s the only quarterback kind of gets the slander that he gets for anytime anything is going on,” Humphrey said via ESPN. “I feel like you just don’t see these same articles. I’m in the hot tub and it’s this, that and the third. Unfair treatment.”

He was then asked whether this was in reference to Jackson’s injury struggles; he chose not to clarify his remarks.

Humphrey then said, “I just feel like sometimes it seems like it gets away from … I don’t know if it’s because of lack of agent or what, that no one can kind of defend him. But I do know this, if Lamar Jackson can play, if he’s healthy enough to play, he will play, and that’s kind of all I can say for that.”

Regardless of where Humphrey’s comments are coming from, there is a growing discussion around Jackson due to his inability to stay on the field. He has struggled with injuries over the last two seasons, missing four games last year.

He hurt his ankle more than three weeks ago and has missed the last three games. He has shown progression in his recovery with increased participation in practice this week, but he remains out.

If the Ravens hope to make a serious push toward the playoffs and the AFC North title, Jackson will need to lead the charge.
