Redskins bring in talented young QB in Dwayne Haskins
Heading into this year’s draft, there has been much uncertainty on how the quarterback class would pan out with their landing spots.
Among those was former Ohio State standout quarterback Dwayne Haskins as he experienced a bit of a slide down the board as he landed with the Washington Redskins at the 15th overall pick. Following all of this, Haskins had a strong message for the rest of the NFL, according to John Keim of ESPN.
“I’m more motivated than ever, there’s a bigger chip on my shoulder, the league done messed up,” he said. “I’m right down the street, so we’re going to do it right this time. So it’s crazy.”
This has brought extra fuel to the fire for Haskins as many had pegged him as being the second-best quarterback in this year’s draft. However, the second player at his position that was taken was Duke’s Daniel Jones by the New York Giants at the sixth overall spot.
The Giants had been linked to Haskins prior to the draft and had been deemed the most likely spot if they went with a quarterback. Instead, they elected to pass on him as he slid all the way down to the 15th spot where the next team with a quarterback need took him.
Haskins now has a chance to immediately make his mark in the league with the Redskins where he will compete right away for the starting job. His primary competition will be Case Keenum, who the Redskins traded for earlier this offseason.
