Redskins QB situation is not getting any better as Jay Gruden’s job status remains uncertain

The Washington Redskins have gotten off to a bumpy start to the 2019 season, dropping their first games.

This has raised serious questions concerning their quarterback situation now that rookie Dwayne Haskins has made his first appearance in an NFL game. With that in mind, head coach Jay Gruden has voiced that the decision on who will be the starter for Week 5 is still up in the air, according to Nora Princiotti of the Boston Globe.

“We don’t have one right now,” he replied.

The Redskins’ decision to pull Case Keenum for Haskins in the 24-3 loss to the New York Giants has put into play a quarterback change. Keenum has been the starter through the first four contests of the season, but Washington has struggled to find any success with him under center.

Meanwhile, Haskins struggled in his first NFL regular season as he completed 9-of-17 passes for 107 yards with three interceptions. It was clear that the Ohio State product wasn’t ready to play as he struggled to find any rhythm, failing to put together a single scoring drive.

The lack of commitment to Keenum shows that the Redskins are ready to move on from him, but the hesitation to name Haskins means that they aren’t fully confident in Haskins. It’s a tough spot that Gruden is in having to decide what direction he wants to head for the rest of the season.

It’s no secret that he’s on the hot seat, making this decision that much more crucial and meaningful.
