Ryan Fitzpatrick tries to put Tua Tagovailoa’s mind at ease amid Dolphins trade rumors

The Miami Dolphins are a team on the rise in the AFC after an impressive season under head coach Brian Flores. The team showed real promise on both sides of the football, but with Deshaun Watson now available via trade, Tua Tagovailoa’s future in Miami has been put in doubt.

Watson has asked the Houston Texans to trade him before next season, and the Dolphins are one of his rumored preferred destinations, and it is easy to see why considering the team’s direction with Flores at the helm.

However, veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick wants Tagovailoa to stay the course as he’s provided the young gunslinger with the following advice, via ESPN.

“That’s the nature of being a QB in the spotlight,” Fitzpatrick said. “Unless you’re winning the Super Bowl, there are always going to be questions and rumors. You look at a guy like Jared Goff, who was in the Super Bowl a few years ago and a No. 1 pick, now he’s on another team.

“I saw Tua’s comments from the other day. The advice I would give him and what he’s going to do is put your head down, you go to work, you tune all that stuff out and you let your presence, leadership ability and play on the field doing all the talking for you. There’s always going to be rumors. There’s always going to be haters and doubters. As long as you have the belief in yourself and a team that believes in you because of how you carry yourself every day, that’s what matters. It gets harder and harder as social media is such a big part of everybody’s life now to tune it out, but that’s what he has to do, and that’s what I think he’s going to do.”

Fitzpatrick, who has been well-traveled in the NFL playing for multiple teams, is right on the money with his comments. Tagovailoa can’t control the situation and is coming off a solid rookie campaign, considering he came back from an injury that normally ends football careers.

Although Fitzpatrick’s words of wisdom will give Tagovailoa something to think about, the fact remains that Watson could still very well be headed to Miami, and the Texans would almost certainly demand to receive the young quarterback in exchange.
