Saints QB Derek Carr could miss entire 2025 NFL season

Months before the start of the 2025 season, the New Orleans Saints are dealing with a massive dilemma with former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr due to a shoulder injury.

As the Saints are set to begin their offseason training program, Carr could potentially miss the 2025 season due to a shoulder injury.

The 34-year-old is coming off an injury-riddled 2024 campaign that saw him play in only 10 games. He was sidelined for seven games due to oblique and hand injuries, including breaking several bones in his non-throwing hand in Week 14 against the New York Giants, which forced him to miss the rest of the season.

In 10 games, Carr finished with 2,145 passing yards with 15 touchdown passes to five interceptions, a 65.5 percent completion rate, and a 101.0 passer rating.

He still has two years remaining in his four-year, $150 million deal, which includes a full no-trade clause.

The Saints currently have four quarterbacks under contract: Carr, Spencer Rattler, Ben DiNucci, and Jake Haener. New Orleans also has around $27 million in salary cap space.

The organization also has the ninth overall pick in this year’s draft, which could be used to add another quarterback to the mix.

The Saints are in a precarious position months out from the 2025 season, putting significant pressure on first-year head coach Kellen Moore.

New Orleans is coming off finishing last in the AFC South behind a 5-12 record. The Saints have missed the playoffs in four consecutive seasons while failing to reach double-digit wins in any campaign over that stretch.
