Sean McVay Drops Intriguing Update on Aaron Donald’s Potential Rams Return

Over the last several weeks, chatter about Aaron Donald potentially unretiring to return to the Los Angeles Rams has grown stronger.

With training camp beginning around the league, it has ramped up another notch as the 2026 season inches closer, especially with Donald reportedly going through his process of deciding whether to make a comeback after two years in retirement.

Rams head coach Sean McVay addressed the situation this week, stating that the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year is undergoing a strict process to determine whether he wants to play again.

“For those of you guys that do know Aaron, he’s very diligent,” McVay said via ESPN. “Anything that he does, he does all-in. And so he’s going through a very strict, regimented process that was similar to what he did when he played.”

McVay added that Donald is putting his body through a workout and training regimen similar to what he would experience during an NFL season.

“We’ll see how his body’s responding to some of the training and the way that he puts himself through the paces to know what it looks and feels like to be ready to take on what the rigors of an NFL season entail,” McVay said.

There have been various reports about Donald’s mindset regarding a possible return, but what has been made clear through it all is that if he were to return, it would only be if he could physically perform at an elite level.
