Shedeur Sanders Sends Strong Message Amid Browns QB Battle

As the start of the 2026 regular season inches closer, the Cleveland Browns have yet to name a starting quarterback.

The Browns are moving through a competition at the position between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. Even as things ramp up, Sanders has voiced no concern with pressure to earn the starting job.

“I’ll say every day of my life’s important,” Sanders said via ESPN. “Every day’s important. I want to say it’s [not] a day that’s not important. So that’s just another day going out there doing what I got to do, honestly. I don’t really feel anxiety or any pressure going into things like that anymore, because that’s how I approach everything. So, it’s just another day of going to work. That’s all it is for me.”

Sanders’ approach has helped him navigate through training camp up to this point. He has been splitting the first-team reps with Watson. The Browns elected to start Watson in the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears while Sanders took the field in the third quarter, where he completed 6 of 11 passes for 79 yards and an interception.

There hasn’t been much of a separating factor between the two, leaving the situation uncertain. The Browns also don’t appear to be in a rush to name a starter, even with the regular season opener sitting just over three weeks away.

Until then, Sanders still holds the golden opportunity ahead to prove he should be the starting quarterback come Week 1.
