Stefon Diggs’ Bold Claim About Where He Ranks Among NFL WRs

As Stefon Diggs awaits in free agency for his next NFL stop, there remains no shortage of confidence in his ability.

The former Pro Bowler conceded that he is no longer an elite wide receiver, but believes that there is no No.2 receiving option for any team in the league that is better than him.

“My opinion, I can compete with anybody,” Diggs said in a video posted last week to his YouTube channel via ESPN. “But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.”

Diggs entered free agency after the Patriots released him after only one season due to financial reasons, as his salary cap charge was set to increase from $10.5 million to $26.5 million for the 2026 season.

The 32-year-old is coming off a productive campaign that saw him lead the team with 85 catches for 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His production tailed off during the Patriots’ run to the Super Bowl, as he had 14 receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown.

It marked the seventh 1,000-yard receiving season of his career, while further signaling that he has returned to form after suffering a torn ACL in 2024.

Although Diggs remains without a new team, he could garner an opportunity ahead or during training camp when it opens back up later this month. He remains a highly productive player who could step in to provide a proven asset to the passing game.

Five teams have reportedly checked in on him, which could lead to him having a new NFL home as the 2026 season draws near.
