Texans acquire WR Christian Kirk in trade with Jaguars

The Houston Texans added more offensive firepower by trading for veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were set to release Kirk before working out a deal that sends him to the back-to-back AFC South division champions.

The Texans needed to add more wide receiver help after dealing with significant injuries. Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell both suffered major knee injuries that could keep them out of action for the 2025 season.

“It hurt us down the stretch, not having Stef, not having Tank. You need those playmakers, especially at the wide receiver position,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said via ESPN. “It enhances your ability to move the football down the field and score points.”

Diggs is heading into free agency, while Dell could miss the entire 2025 season as he underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL and a separate operation to repair other torn ligaments.

Kirk is heading into the final year of his four-year, $72 million deal, making the 2025 season a crucial campaign to earn another lucrative contract.

The 28-year-old has struggled to stay on the field over the last two seasons due to an abdominal injury and broken collarbone. He had a breakout first year with the Jaguars, where he notched career highs with 84 catches for 1,108 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 2022.

Kirk figures to play a significant role in the passing game with Houston alongside Nico Collins, especially with the lack of depth at wide receiver.
