Texans nearing long-term deal with head coach Bill O’Brien

The Houston Texans had plenty of cleaning up to do heading into their NFL offseason. They ended their 2017 campaign with head coach Bill O’Brien’s first losing season in Houston. The franchise apparently values the veteran coach as they’re on the cusp of a long-term deal.

Despite the rumors that O’Brien may be on the hot seat in Houston, the team fully intends to keep him around for quite some time. O’Brien will avoid the ax while securing his future with the team, via Pro Football Talk.

With the Texans set to hire Brian Gaine as General Manager, they will turn their attention to getting Bill O’Brien on board for the long haul. Houston is negotiating a long-term contract extension with the head coach, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans will put their disappointing season behind them and for good reason considering they dealt with numerous injuries. J.J. Watt missed most of the campaign this past year. Up-and-coming star Deshaun Watson showed he may have a very bright future ahead as the team’s starter under centre.

With Watson, the Texans have a potential franchise quarterback that may take them to the next level. O’Brien, who’s known for his work with quarterbacks, may have been retained to help Watson.

Futures

Needless to say, if Watson can come back healthy along with J.J. Watt while the teak also makes upgrades on offence this offseason, the team could become a serious force to be reckoned with.

Once the odds for next season surface, the Texans may very well be one of the teams to watch in the AFC.
