Titans QB Ryan Tannehill lauds Derrick Henry’s improved receiving skills

The Tennessee Titans are coming off an impressive 2019 campaign. The once-struggling franchise showed a lot of promise last season with Derrick Henry emerging as arguably the best running back in the league and veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill proving to be better than expected as their new starter under center.

In 2020, the Titans hope to take the next step with both Henry and Tannehill back for the long haul after signing contract extensions over the NFL offseason. Along with Henry putting on a show as a rusher in 2019, he is already making strides to improve his pass-catching ability for next season, and Tannehill has taken notice, via ESPN.

“We see Derrick working on it. He made some strides and is catching the ball more confidently. The more we can move him around and use him as a weapon not only running the ball but in the passing game, [all the better].”

Last season, Henry had the best year of his career thus far for the Titans. He racked up 1,746 yards from scrimmage while 18 total touchdowns. However, he only caught 18 passes on the year for 204 yards and two touchdowns, which he can improve upon moving forward to become more of a well-rounded back and dual-threat for Tennessee.

If Henry can become more of a reliable receiver or even a decent threat in the passing game, things should open up considerably for the Titans as they try to remain a playoff team in the NFC. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that they can even take it a step further and become a legitimate Super Bowl title contender.
