Veteran QB Russell Wilson meets with Steelers, Giants

Since the Denver Broncos announced the decision to part ways with former Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson on the first day of the new league year on March 13, it opened the door for his NFL future.

The Broncos have given Wilson permission to speak with other teams in hopes of helping him find his next stop. He has quickly garnered interest from a few other teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Steelers met with Wilson for several hours, which was described as a productive conversation between both sides. Pittsburgh currently has questions under center, with 2022 first-round picks Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph both not truly separating themselves as clear-cut starters.

Wilson could quickly join the Steelers, whose roster is similar to what he had for many years with the Seattle Seahawks. Pittsburgh’s identity is built on its stout defense and feasible running game.

Meanwhile, the Giants’ interest is intriguing given their quarterback situation. Daniel Jones is set to enter the second year of his four-year, $160 million deal. However, New York could take on a $22.2 million dead cap hit for 2025 by releasing him next offseason.

The Raiders are hoping to push forward with a resurgence under first-year head coach Antonio Pierce. Wilson would provide Las Vegas with a proven commodity under center while further building the roster around him.

As the start of free agency nears closer, Wilson could soon have a new NFL home.
