Vikings sticking with JJ McCarthy over signing Aaron Rodgers

The Minnesota Vikings finally have a sense of direction under center. The team is expected to roll with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy as the starter moving forward.

Four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers reportedly considered the Vikings a possible landing spot, but the boat has seemingly sailed for that scenario.

Rodgers has yet to narrow his search for his next NFL home in 2025, which may have led Minnesota to push forward with their future plans with McCarthy.

The Vikings had spent the last several days reviewing their options after Rodgers conveyed that he wanted to sign with the franchise. Things appeared to be heading in that direction, especially with Sam Darnold signing a three-year, $110 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

Meanwhile, Daniel Jones rejected their contract offer and signed with the Indianapolis Colts instead.

Vikings are now moving forward with McCarthy, who is coming off missing his rookie season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee. He will get the first-team snaps in OTA practices and minicamp.

If he experiences a setback or struggles to show progress, the Vikings could once again explore the scenario of bringing Rodgers aboard if he has yet to sign with a team.

Rodgers’ options are narrowing as the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be his likely destination. He hasn’t moved toward a decision, but it’s a choice that could be made for him due to the lack of teams interested.

He wants to join a team that has the chance to compete for the playoffs and much more, and the Steelers fit that bill.
