Washington vs Green Bay: Live Blog

packersniners-wrToday, since we already gave our picks on the NFC North games earlier in the week. We are going to do something different. We are doing live commentary on the game as it is being played.

Washington Redskins at Green Bay Packers– Green Bay takes the opening kickoff and starts at their own 20 following a touch-back. With Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, the Packers put together a smooth opening drive with the running of Eddie Lacy and the passing of Rodgers. After they moved the ball 62 yards to the Redskins 18, they committed a holding penalty and were knocked back to the 28. Two plays later, Rodgers hit on a pass down to the nine for a first and goal. But a penalty and a sack later, the Packers were back to the Skins 24. A 14 yard pass play to Jermichael Finley at the 10 yard line. From there Mason Crosby put’s Green Bay up 3-0.

The Packers could not have asked for a much better opening drive with Rodgers passing for 75 yards and the team gaining four first downs. Penalties and negative plays in the red zone continue to be a problem though as they were in the preseason.

Washington took over on its 20 following the kickoff. After a 14-yard pass on first down from Robert Griffin III to Leonard Hankerson down the middle for a first down, the drive stalled and the Skins were forced to punt. After the punt, the Packers were three-an-out following a sack by Brian Orakpo. Green Bay then punted to the Skins who took over at the seven yard line following a penalty on the return.

Score Update: In another big NFC North game, the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings are tied 7-7.

Washington again goes three-and-out and after punting, the Packers get the ball at the 42. It’s watch-out time for the Redskins as the Pack is winning the battle of field position. Perhaps holding them to a field goal here would be a Redskins victory.

TOUCHDOWN PACKERS!! On a fourth and three at the Skins 35, the Packers go for it. Rodgers hits Randall Cobb down the middle for a 35 yard score! Green Bay 10 Washington 0. RGIII and the offense really needs to answer, or this game could get away from them. Rodgers and the Pack offense is really clicking. Anybody out there watching, feel free to comment on the game.

The Skins put together a decent drive from their own 20 but it stalls at the Green Bay 33. Instead of kicking a 50 yard field goal, the Skins try to play the field position game and punt. It might have worked as the punt was fair caught at the 10 but a 15-yard penalty ruins it as Green Bay takes over at the 25. Maybe the Skins should go for it in this situation next time?

Looking back on our pick in this game, we said to pick the Skins +7.5 but take the Pack straight up -330. We also liked the over at 49.5 -110. So far the Packers straight up looks good and we are still not in bad shape on the over. But Washington needs to start putting up some points. The Packers are driving again and are in the Red Zone.

TOUCHDOWN PACKERS!! Rodgers hits Jordy Nelson on a 14 yard strike for his second TD pass of the first half. Crosby’s PAT makes it Green Bay 17 and Washington 0.

Skins have 11:40 left until halftime to get something going. They take over at the their own 20 following the touch-back on the kickoff. Griffin comes out firing on first down, completing an 18 yarder to the 38. That is as far as they would get as they are forced into yet another punt. Green Bay will take over at their own 10 with 10:04 until halftime.

TOUCHDOWN GREEN BAY!! Folks, this is just too easy. I get up to go to the fridge and I come back and the Pack is on the three. Another Rodgers TD pass and it is now 24-0 with 7:07 to go. For you who are bad at math, that’s 90 yards in under 3:00. That is just too easy. Washington could be playing itself right out of contention in the first two weeks.

24-0. This is about the point that channels are changing to look for a better game. On that note, we will keep an eye on this one and if Washington ever does anything we will return. If not, I hope you took Green Bay with the moneyline and not the Skins +7.5. If you listened to us on the O/U you are looking good there too.
