Los Angeles Kings Trade for Defenseman Ellerby
The Kings and Panthers agreed to terms Friday morning that sent defenseman Keaton Ellerby to Los Angeles for a 5th rounder.
The fifth-round draft pick was originally taken from New Jersey, but was soon acquired by Los Angeles on Feb. 6 after the team parted ways with center Andrei Loktionov, sending him to the Devils, per Yahoo! Sports.
Ellerby has been a bit of a disappointment in his five years in the NHL. He was originally selected as the 10th overall pick in the NHL draft back in 2007, but has only registered two goals and 15 assists in his 125-game career.
Fortunately, the 6-foot-five, 217-pound defenseman does bring some size to an otherwise small Kings squad, and parting ways with a fifth round draft pick is by no means a loss.
The news comes on the heels of the Kings looking to shake up the roster from their NHL title last year due to a poor start. The team is currently 3-4-2 and have only tallied eight points. Fortunately, there is still a lot of season left to regain their seven point disadvantage over the Pacific Division leaders Anaheim and San Jose.
