Nick Foles To Push Mitchell Trubisky In Chicago

Super Bowl winning quarterback Nick Foles is on his way to play for the Bears after one season in Jacksonville.

The Chicago Bears will acquire Nick Foles from the Jaguars in return for a fourth-round pick, according to NFL.com.

In his one year in Jacksonville, Nick Foles earned $30.5 million. He earned that big contract after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl LII win.

However, his 2019 season was cut short by a broken collarbone he sustained in Week 1. The unexpected rise to prominence of Gardner Minshew meant that Nick Foles was no longer the starting QB.

Foles could be arriving in Chicago at just the right time. Particularly for the man who he may usurp, former second overall pick Mitchell Trubisky.

Mitchell Trubisky had a below par 2019 season. 2018 saw him finish with a passer rating of 95.4 but last year this fell to 83. As well as that, he had 7 less touchdowns in 2019, and only amassed 3,100 passing yards.

His unreliable accuracy and poor decision making meant that the Chicago Bears offense was blunted as a result.

Trubisky is entering his fourth season, and must prove himself before Chicago takes up his 5th year option. It’s a win-win for the Bears.

If Trubisky can prove himself against Foles, then the 2017 draftee can resurrect his career and reputation. If not, Chicago has a Super Bowl winning veteran to take his place.

With Tom Brady joining Tampa Bay, and several teams looking for a signal-caller in the draft, next season will be all about quarterbacks. Look for the new quarterback who settles quickly to push his team towards a postseason run.
