NL Betting Roundup: September 5, 2013

The St. Louis Cardinals will likely be duking it out with the Cincinnati Reds for the NL wild card spot later this month. However, they meet one more time tonight to decide who wins the season series. The Cardinals are 80-59, only a game back from the division-leading Pittsburgh Pirates, while the Cincinnati Reds are 78-62, 3.5 games back from Pittsburgh. The NL Central has been one of the toughest and most competitive divisions in all of baseball this season, and its likely to come down to the wire. After all, it took two home runs from the Cardinals’ Matt Adams to finally take down the Reds in a 16-inning epic on Wednesday night.

“That was just a character win,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. “The guys just kept grinding, not giving up or giving in. The job the young bullpen did holding them down was impressive. That’s one of those wins you don’t forget.”
