Noah Vonleh Signs with the New York Knicks

Free agent forward Noah Vonleh has signed with the New York Knicks, the team announced on Tuesday.

According to ESPN, the deal is for one year. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Noah Vonleh was the no. 9 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He spent last season playing with the Portland Trail Blazers and then the Chicago Bulls.

Vonleh (22), was picked by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014 NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-9, 245 pound Noah Vonleh last season averaged 4.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He recorded these figures in 16.2 minutes over 54 total games (16 starts).

He was traded from Charlotte to Portland in 2015. For Portland last season, he played in 33 games (12 starts). He averaged 3.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in 14.4 minutes for the Trail Blazers.

Vonleh was traded midseason to the Chicago Bulls, where he played in 21 games, including 4 starts. He averaged 6.9 points and 6.9 rebounds over 19.0 minutes.

His overall record is 4.1 points and 4.7 rebounds over 15.5 minutes in 231 games (113 starts).

Vonleh played his university ball in Indiana, with Indiana University. There he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and third team All0Big Ten. He averaged 11.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 30 games (29 starts).

Vonleh will compete for a rotation spot on New York’s forward line. His opportunities for minutes will come in the absence of power forward Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis is still in rehab for an ACL injury which required surgery.

The Knicks also added former lottery pick Mario Hezonja earlier in free agency. The franchise now has nine former lottery picks on the roster.
