Odds Makers Have Mahomes as Overwhelming Favorite to Win NFL MVP
As the final week of the NFL regular season for 2018 is set to kick off, odds makers seem to think the MVP race is over.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is now at -250 to win the coveted award and the only other player left on the board with Mahomes is veteran Saints signal caller Drew Brees currently at +170.
Just a few weeks ago the MVP race was led by Brees. Prior to the kick off of Week 13, Brees passed Mahomes and was the strong -400 favorite, with the KC quarterback at +250. However, the potent offense for the Saints has sputtered of late. In three games since then Saints scored just 10 points against the Cowboys and 12 against the Panthers.
Last Sunday, the Saints returned to form in a 31-28 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it appears to be too late for Brees in the race for the MVP award.
At the same time, Mahomes has not missed a beat despite Kansas City losing to the Chargers and Seahawks in the past two weeks. The defense for the Chiefs has lacked form all season and was the biggest reason for the two losses and Mahomes could not be faulted for the two losses.
Mahomes, who attended Texas Tech, did not commit a turnover in either of the losses, while throwing for a combined 516 yards and five touchdowns during the two games. After 15 games, Mahomes has thrown for 4,816 yards, 48 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 114.
While there is little or no value in his current price, the likelihood of Mahomes not winning the coveted individual award is very, very minuscule.
