Oregon State vs Oregon Pick and Prediction
Tradition is what the Thanksgiving weekend is all about in the U.S. and one of those traditions is the The Civil War between the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks.
This season’s edition of the Game is all about pride. Oregon State has lost four consecutive games and could miss a postseason bowl with its current 6-5 record. In their latest game, the Beavers were humiliated by Washington 69-27 and they opened their season by being defeated by lowly Eastern Washington.
It seemed like just days ago that Oregon was flying high, as the Ducks were enjoying a perfect season. Everything looked as though Oregon would play for the national title, but all that changed. The Ducks lost two of their past three games, including their latest loss a 42-16 whipping by Arizona, who is unranked.
The Ducks are out of the Pac-12 Conference Championship game and will not play for the first time in the past five seasons in a BCS Bowl.
For these two Oregon institutions, this season the Platypus Trophy is the best they will get.
The current line has Oregon as a hefty favorite by 21.5 with the over/under point total on 69.
Oregon scored 55 points or more in six of seven games to start the season, but has not done much to impress anyone the past few weeks.
The Ducks downfall started with a loss in early November to Stanford 26-20. The Ducks then turned around and were humiliated at the hands of Arizona 42-16.
Marcus Mariota, the Ducks quarterback has fallen from the ranks of Heisman Trophy contender. He has been cleared to play in the game after suffering a leg and head injury the past three weeks. In the two defeats this season, Mariota has 558 yards, four touchdowns and two picks.
The yardage is insignificant and three of the four touchdowns passes were during the fourth quarters when the games were already out of hand.
Oregon has defeated in-state rival Oregon State five straight times. Oregon has scored at least 37 points in each of the five consecutive wins and all but one has been decided by at least 17 points.
Oregon State is giving up nearly 32 points per game this season, which ranks No. 95 in the nation. The Ducks might just have a field day in this matchup.
The Beavers gave up 69 points last week at home and even though Oregon gave up 42 last week, the Beavers do not have the talent Arizona had. Both schools need a win desperately to rebound from devastating losses. However, it looks much more likely Oregon will win at home.
Pick: Oregon Ducks 59-21
