Packers reportedly making ‘progress’ in contract talks with Aaron Rodgers

The NFL offseason is well underway with a lot of movement already taking place. Franchise tags, trades, players getting released, and rumors of big-name players potentially headed elsewhere. In the midst of all this movement, the Green Bay Packers have stayed relatively quiet. Now it seems there’s been a good reason for that.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the Packers brass has been working on a lucrative contract extension for superstar quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

It shouldn’t be too long before Aaron Rodgers is back atop the NFL quarterback pay scale.

Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy told ESPN on Tuesday there has already been progress made toward a new contract for the two-time NFL MVP even though he’s signed through the 2019 season.

Last season was a bit of a rough one for Rodgers. The veteran quarterback suffered a collarbone injury during 2017 which derailed the team’s chances of competing in the NFC. Ultimately, it resulted in the franchise missing the playoffs for the first time in quite some time.

Super Bowl Futures

Following a disappointing season, Rodgers is more motivated than ever. The perennial Pro Bowler has stated that he’s got Super Bowl title contention in his sights. As well as that, the goal of winning another NFL MVP award is on his mind.

Along with being determined to right the ship after 2017, Rodgers could be a very rich man as he’ll almost certainly surpass Jimmy Garoppolo ($137.5 million) as the highest-paid quarterback in the league. Garoppolo recently inked his new deal with the San Francisco 49ers setting the bar high for quarterbacks once again.

Although Rodgers is coming off an injury, the Packers are still considered a serious threat to win the Super Bowl next season.
