Patrick Mahomes Lauds ‘Fighting’ K.C Teammates
Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes has thanked his teammates for allowing him to shine on the biggest stage.
Patrick Mahomes did not play well through the first three quarters against the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco seized the opportunity, and held a 10 point lead until halfway through the fourth quarter.Â
However, this is a resilient Kansas City Chiefs team. A late Patrick Mahomes rally inspired them to a 31 – 20 win, their third comeback win in this postseason.Â
Before the game, Mahomes seemed destined to inspire Kansas City to Super Bowl glory. While having the best player was key to a K.C victory, it was not the only thing it needed. It also needed a strong team that could hang in there long enough for Mahomes to work his magic.Â

While the Chiefs had the better QB, the 49ers had the better all-round team, and Mahomes acknowledged his teammates’ spirit.
“We weren’t executing at a high-enough level and you play a defense like that, you’re not going to have much success,” Mahomes said.Â
“I’m just glad our guys kept fighting and we found a way to get it in the end.”
Mahomes finished with 26-of-42 for 286 yards, two TDs and two INTs. As well as that, he added 29 yards on nine carries on the ground.

He threw the first of his two interceptions in the third quarter, at which point it looked like the game might be slipping away from the Chiefs.Â
“I just tried to fight,” Mahomes said.Â
“That was the biggest thing. Obviously, the third quarter didn’t go the way I wanted. I tried to force some things and had some turnovers. But the guys believed in me and gave me the confidence to keep fighting and we found a way to win in the end.”
