Patrick Mahomes Wins MVP and Offensive Player of Year Awards

Right from the start of the regular season, when Patrick Mahomes threw for 10 touchdowns in just the first two games of the regular season through to when he ended the regular season with 50 touchdown passes to become the second NFL player in history to throw that many and to pass for over 5,000 yards, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs appeared to be the front runner to win the two awards.

On Saturday, that is just what happened when Mahomes was named the league’s 2018 NFL Most Valuable Player by the Associated Press. His 41 votes from the nationwide panel of members of the media who regularly cover the NFL easily beat out New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees with nine votes.

Mahomes said he was humbled, but this was just the start with a long ways still to go.

Mahomes become the Kansas City starting quarterback to begin the season a year after trading up in the draft to pick him during the first round. He led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record, a third straight AFC West title and a trip to the AFC Championship game.

Mahomes became the fourth youngest NFL MVP behind Jim Brown in 1957, Brown again in 1958 and Dan Marino.

Mahomes finished the season with 5,097 yards passing, 50 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.

Aaron Donald Name Defensive Player of the Year
