Patriots QB Cam Newton says rookie Mac Jones is ‘cool like the other side of the pillow’

The New England Patriots are coming off a massively disappointing while also witnessing Tom Brady win yet another Super Bowl, but this team with another team in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Cam Newton experiment didn’t go as planned, and now the team brought in some insurance in the form of rookie Mac Jones.

Although many anticipate Jones to take over the starting job under center for the Patriots sooner rather than later, Newton has recently embraced his new teammate and had some praise for the first-year quarterback.

“Oh man, [he’s] cool like the other side of the pillow, you know what I’m saying? You never know when he’s really down himself, you don’t really necessarily know when he’s up either,” Newton said, via Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. “He’s real cool. I’m surprised [with] his knowingness of hip-hop music. You catch him in the locker room every time quoting some Future, some ‘Baby. But those are things that you’ve just got to learn with time. We had an opportunity to meet in OTAs but you don’t really get it. And then it’s still another curve that’s going to get during game times. It’s good that we get preseason games and things like that so you’ll know these live bullets.

“So I’m pretty much here for him just like Brian [Hoyer] is here for him. And I know it’s reciprocated on all fronts.”

At this point, there’s no telling how the 2021 NFL season might go for Bill Belichick’s Patriots. New England was as aggressive as any team in free agency and upgraded their roster on both sides of the football, but the result remains to be seen on the football field.

Jones continues to make an impression on Newton and the franchise as he tries to prove his worth as a legitimate option under center for New England.
