Pennsylvania sees massive uptick in babies named Carson
The Philadelphia Eagles and franchise quarterback Carson Wentz are the toast of Pennsylvania after earning their first-ever Super Bowl title with an upset victory over the vaunted New England Patriots back in February.
How popular are the Eagles in the Keystone State? Well, the number of Pennsylvanians naming their babies Carson has skyrocketed in recent months.
It’s the same trajectory the name Chase (as in Chase Utley) took after the Phillies won the World Series and 2008. Chase peaked as the 9th most popular name in the state the following year.
According to the U.S. Social Security database over 300 babies were named Carson in Pennsylvania last year. This chart shows just how rapidly the growth has been.
In fact, Carson is now the 39th most popular name in the state. Should the Eagles go on to have another successful season, no doubt Carson will continue to climb in popularity.
Despite suffering a torn ACL late in the 2017 season, Wentz is considered one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL.
An MVP candidate for a vast majority of the season, Wentz completed north of 60 percent of his passes for 3,296 yards with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
